I had 6-9, I had to play it.

As per Monday-morning protocol, here is the weekend recap:

Friday: I spent Friday night playing poker at a friend from college’s house. More accurately, I should say that I spent it at Loc’s ex-girlfriend, who we all still talk to because she’s a super-cool girl’s house. It was Loc’s ex-girlfriend, her husband and two of her coworkers. I was definitely out of place and lost in many of the early conversations. Once the tequila started flowing, however, the party started to loosen up. There was this girl there named Kathy who was cracking me up all night. The unfortunate thing about it was that she didn’t know what the hell she was doing. Any time I bet big, she’d call, all the while looking at me with this really cute look on her face, like she was trying to read me. The thing about that though is that at one point she busted my pocket Aces with a 6-9 unsuited. She caught two pair on the river and doubled up, playing the hand because she “had to play it, it was 69. hehehe.” She also busted my A-K suited with trip 3s and my pocket kings with a straight draw on the river. It was a rough night for me.

Saturday: We had a hockey game in the afternoon, which we lost. It was quite a disappointment after a pretty spectacular season. This team, apparently, has a history of pulling choke jobs in the playoffs. The new season starts today, so there’s no rest for the weary. After the game, Ozzy (our substitute goaltender) and I went to D’born to join in the celebration of Roman and Katie’s engagement. Roman made Katie trudge through the snow in Dearborn’s Ford Field to propose to her at the site of their first date. The story is actually very funny, and was told several times throughout the night. Beyond that, it was a typical night at the bar, I just hope Nate behaved himself on the ride home with our friend Paula.

Sunday: I made the long trek to Warren to get lunch with the Intern. It was the first time I’d seen her house and was actually pretty impressed. She’s got a sweet gazebo in the backyard and she said I was the only one who’s been in the house to comment positively on the color of the living room walls. For the record, it’s a warm reddish-orange that makes the room seem very warm. The burgundy window treatments kind of clash, but the walls themselves are great. I know that totally made me sound gay, but please remember, I like girls. Other than that, Sunday was pretty uneventful.
