Me, a professor?

I just got back from the alma mater and am about to crash out for the afternoon. It’s been a very busy week and I have to work all weekend, so I’m going to take advantage of the quiet afternoon. Before I nap, however, I wanted to put some thoughts down. First, let me just say that I’m glad I’m not still a student working at that paper.
Today was a nice break from the my typical routine. Going down and talking with students is always fun. It was especially nice to get the opportunity to catch up with my favorite professor. She made the common faux pas of asking how EB is, so I had to politely tell her that we broke up. She asked what happened, and I gave her the one-minute version. You know: we talked about getting engaged, I bought a ring, I planned the proposal, EB confessed that she had feelings for Rene, Now she’s moving in with him. Poor professor, she felt really bad for asking. I had to reassure her that it happens all the time and isn’t that big of a deal.
After smoothing that over, I sat down with a handful of students from the paper and the professor’s class. It was nice, because of the small group we kept it nice and informal. We talked about trends in the industry as they relate to the Internet and technology and what the students can do to better prepare themselves for the changing job market.
The best part about the day was after the presentation. The professor and I got talking and she said she had been thinking of developing a course on the changing face of journalism as it relates to the World Wide Web, technology, etc. She said the only difficult part in developing the course has been finding someone to teach it. “You’d be perfect!” she said. “Would you be interested?” All I could think was, “Are you kidding? Of course I’d be interested.” How great would that be, the kid who rarely went to class, teaching. I’m so excited right now. I need to follow up with her next week. It’d just be the kind of thing Art does, teaching one course in the evenings and putting in a few evening office hours. I know it’d be a lot of work, but seriously, has that ever stopped me before?
